Empowering Rural Education through Global Participation
Savanna Conservation Africa (SCA) is proud to offer an immersive Community Teaching Volunteer Program, inviting international educators and aspiring teachers to make a lasting impact in underserved rural communities across Southern Africa. This program is tailored for compassionate, skilled, and adaptable individuals eager to contribute to the educational development of primary and secondary school students in remote savanna regions.
Program Overview
The program is designed to support rural schools with limited resources and staff by placing volunteers directly in classrooms to assist local teachers or take full teaching responsibility where necessary. Participants engage in meaningful cross-cultural exchange while gaining hands-on experience in diverse educational settings.
Two volunteer placement durations are available:
6 Weeks – Ideal for educators on sabbatical or university students on a summer break
12 Weeks – Suited for professionals or gap-year participants seeking in-depth involvement

Key Responsibilities
Volunteers will:
Deliver lessons in English and/or relevant subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, Environmental Education, etc.)
Assist local teachers with lesson planning and classroom management
Conduct remedial and enrichment sessions to support struggling learners
Organize extracurricular activities such as arts, sports, debate clubs, and reading circles
Foster a culture of environmental awareness in alignment with SCA’s conservation mission
Participate in community outreach and parent engagement initiatives where applicable
Volunteer Profile
We welcome applications from:
Qualified teachers (primary and secondary level)
Education students and recent graduates
TEFL-certified individuals or those with a background in child development or educational psychology
Volunteers must be fluent in English, culturally sensitive, flexible, and prepared to live and work in rural, resource-constrained environments
Support & Accommodation
Savanna Conservation Africa ensures a safe, structured, and supportive environment for all participants. The program includes:
Full accommodation in volunteer housing near assigned schools
Three nutritious meals per day, with attention to dietary preferences
Local orientation and cultural immersion training
Ongoing mentorship and check-ins from our Volunteer Program Coordinators
Access to basic medical support, emergency contact systems, and reliable communication tools

Program Fees
A program contribution covers all living expenses and supports the sustainability of the teaching placements. Detailed fee structures for 6-week and 12-week programs are available upon inquiry.
